Sunday is Family Day.
The entire family spent Father’s Day cleaning house, because we just had our house remodeled so that we now have a nice veranda where the chaotic “garden” used to be. Dad and I were assigned to fix up outside (the garage and garden area). We bonded a bit while we were scrubbing the old basketballs and emptying out his old toolbox. I kind of realized then how very alike the two of us are. We also gave Sarah a very happy, shampoo-bubbles-everywhere bath.
We had a lunch break, which consisted of our traditional Father’s Day fare: yummy, yummy Rib-eye steak and mashed potatoes. After lunch, Dad went out to buy himself new tools (his father’s day gift to himself) and I finished up cleaning the garden and garage. I had the best shower when I finished. It’s always fun to take a shower when you’re really grimy and stinky!
After that, I went to see my younger brother who, in the middle of the clean-fest suddenly got caught with the flu (we’re hoping its not swine flu). He had bunked up in my parent’s room, and though the air-conditioning was off, he was shaking really hard. He asked me to hug him, and of course, I obliged. From the time he turned 13, he’s been weaning himself from my hugs. Now that he’s 14-going-on-15, he’s downright running away from them! It hasn’t been easy for me not to hug him, especially since I’m such a stage-ate, and I love hugging my family! Apparently, when my younger brother is sick and cold, he loves the hugs too. Of course, he made me un-hug him soon enough, but that one minute or so was enough to last me the day. I spent the most part of the afternoon hanging out with him in our parent’s room (as they continued to clean up - evil kids!) watching Jurassic Park 3 and John Q.
After dinner my older brother and I went to the grocery store to buy Ice Cream and Cheetos Jalapeno for my dad. There were so many people there, so he and I decided to queue up in separate lines. When we did this, we cut our waiting time in half! Hooray! If we were on the Amazing Race, we would’ve won, we were so fast.
Now, I’ve an empty cup of what was once Hazelnut Brownie Ice Cream in front of me, my dad is singing along to Adam Lambert’s Ring of Fire version (he’s such a groupie, I swear), my mom just kissed the top of my head on her way to check on my sick brother, and my brother is calling me to look at Cate Blanchett sporting the Butterfly nets on her gown in Elizabeth: The Golden Age.
Here’s to family Sundays.
